What is Finglish?

Finglish is a blend of Farsi (Persian) and English, widely used in everyday informal communication among Persian speakers in Iran and the global diaspora. It involves writing Farsi words and sentences using the Roman (English) alphabet rather than the Persian script.

Unlike formal Farsi, Finglish does not follow strict spelling rules. It reflects how millions of bilingual Persian speakers naturally communicate digitally in text messages, social media, and casual conversations.

FinglishFarsiMeaning
SalamسلامHello / Hi
MamnoonممنونThank you
ManمنI / Me
ShomaشماYou (formal)
KhubخوبGood / Fine
KhuneخونهHome
MiramمیرمI'm going
MiamمیامI'm coming
BegooبگوTell / Say
MidunamمیدونمI know
Chi shodچی شدWhat happened?
Daram mikhunamدارم میخونمI'm studying

These sentences mix Farsi and English the way real Persian speakers text each other — Farsi grammar with English loanwords.
